The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office (RPSO) serves a population of approximately 132,000 people patrolling an area of 1300 square miles.
The Uniform division of RPSO has approximately 10 different sections within the department. The Patrol section covers all areas of Rapides parish both inside and outside of all municipalities. These patrols are performed from the main office and six substations that cover the entire parish.
The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office has 60 School Resource Officers stationed throughout Rapides Parish schools. Every elementary, middle and senior high school in the parish has a School Resource Officer, including the private schools. Their primary responsibility is the safety of the students and faculty.
The Communications section has 16 full-time and part-time Communications Officers who work the same shifts as the Patrol section. This relationship between the two sections is very important to unit integrity and cohesiveness. The Communications section handles approximately 2,500 incidents each month.
The Uniform Division also is responsible for the Motorcycle Section, K-9 Unit, Reserve Deputy Section, the England Airpark/Airport Security, School Resource Officers, Honor Guard, D.A.R.E. Program, Warrants Section, Court Security, Community Police and Animal Control. In addition to regular schedules, the Patrol/Enforcement Division is also active in numerous charitable organizations.
