The Citizens' Academy began to further educate the public about the Sheriff's Office and the different roles each department plays in making the community a safer place. The academy is held each Tuesday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for a duration of 7 weeks. Each week representatives from each of the different divisions speak and answer questions about their particular role within the Sheriff's Office. The other Divisions to be covered over the duration of the academy include: Investigations, Enforcement, Administrative, Corrections and Support Services.
This unique opportunity is being offered to the public free of charge, but spaces are limited to the first (30) qualified applicants. If you are not selected the first time we will keep your application on file and call you the next time we have an academy.
A demonstratio0n of the RPSO K-9 Unit will be done as well as a peek inside a patrol car and various Special Operations vehicles, Bomb Disposal Unit and Mobile Command Post. At the end of the academy, those interested will get to participate in a brief "ride along" to get a first hand look at protecting the communities of Rapides Parish. The academy ends with a graduation and cookout for all attendees.
